Foreword: Do you feel sad, low, down, having a loss of interest or pleasure in daily life activities? The symptoms seem familiar to all human beings. But, if they persist and affect our life substantially, then it can lead to depression. Depression is not a disease. It is a common mood disorder in which people experience hopelessness. This is mostly temporary and can be healed if you recognise it and get the right help. By getting the wisdom & purpose of life and understanding nature's law of karma, one can permanently uplift the self from feeling down or depressed. Knowing that - ''I AM THE CREATOR of my own LIFE. And I CAN SHAPE my future with my present Karma.''

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 7.6% of people over the age of 12 have depression in any 2-week period. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression is the most common mental illness worldwide and the leading cause of disability. They estimate that 350 million people are affected by depression, globally.


Cause of Depression & Introduction

The major cause of depression is 'overthinking'. You must have observed that whenever we think too much on the subject of the future or past, we feel uneasy, sad, hopeless, or low. Isn't it? We feel helpless (because the events of the past and future are NOT in our control). Hence this leads to a feeling of helplessness, which leads to overthinking, and thus depression. This is the cycle.


First of all, we should know that depression is not a disease. It is the outcome of a prolonged period of negative thinking about oneself, dissatisfaction with a present situation, thoughts about the past or future, non-fulfillment of a desire & expectation, or an unsuccessful relationship. When situations, people, or work are not according to our way we feel down, hopeless, frustrated, and finally depressed.


Solution

This down feeling can be easily overcome by merely not taking negative information from media (news, videos, internet, etc). If you are feeling lonely, a good thing to do is to find something you love to do, which is productive and doing which your time passes in happiness. Making good friends, watching a useful program on TV, spending time with family, playing outside, and reading good books are a few of them. And if that doesn't relate, just go out for a long walk, go to a nearby garden. This will surely free your mind from the illusions created from negative thoughts.

➥We always expect someone to take care of us, love us, and understand us. Remember that even if no one understands what you are going through, God is there for you. You are not alone in this world and you are not Lonely. If you feel lonely make a friendship with God. You can swiftly overcome a depressive stage of life, just follow the below guidance.



Step-wise Guidance


1. Check your thoughts

You need to understand that how you have created depression. The way you think leads to the way you feel and result in depression. What we think repeatedly becomes our dominant thought. We attract everything towards us by giving that thought, either negative or positive. Because the universe is open to everything. It does not know what is negative & what is positive. It just returns back what you give. This is the law of Attraction, the Universal Law. We commutate to the universe through our thoughts.


2. Free Yourself from expectations

Never ever expect anything from anybody. Do not expect all the emotional needs especially Love, care, respect, appreciation from anybody. Rather learn to accept Everyone as they are.

3. Practice Meditation

Learn meditation and practice it daily morning and before sleep. Meditation is not only a way of sitting or focusing on thoughts. No, instead it is going within to realise the inner 'self', to re-discover our own reality: Who we are... Meditation is needed more today than ever. Maybe you don't have enough time to practice and master meditation, but remember; even a moment of an experience of innate peace, love, purity, and joy can give you a lasting benefit. To say of myself, I meditate (rajyoga) for a few minutes in the morning, and the spiritual feelings of peace, love and powers remains with me till evening.

4. Practice Affirmation

Self Affirmations can raise our vibration high and uplift our self-confidence. Affirmation is a blessing that you give to yourself. When you wake up in the morning recite these lines in your mind:

  • I am a Peaceful soul

  • I am a Pure soul

  • I am a Powerful soul

  • I am perfectly healthy physically, emotionally & mentally

Note➥ While you recite the above affirmations, imagine yourself as a 'Soul', in the company of the Supreme Soul (our spiritual father). Or otherwise, imagine a white pure light (of peace, purity, love, joy, and powers) falling on you from above.


5. Start doing things that you love.

Everybody has some interests and hobbies. As you do what you love, it will make you feel good. Avoid waste thoughts. Especially thoughts about past & future. What happened, was 'past' and will not come back... Whatever happens from now is for good... Love and accept your-self first. Nurture your-self. Find your hobby and start doing it. Keep yourself Busy. That is the most important.


6. Surround yourself with positive people

Positive people reflects positive vibrations and act as a very good motivator for others. Spend time with people who inspires or motivates you. Apart from that read inspirational books, do not read newspapers in the morning or do not spend time on social media too much. Surround your home environment with some pictures of flowers that will give you a good feeling. Flowers don't cost much, and their beauty and fragrance, does give a positive influence on our mood.


Takeaway➥ For this moment, forget about worldly matters, about the past, and even the present... As if you are re-born with god's knowledge, love, and blessings. As long as you do good karma, be kind, help others, and remain hopeful, God is always with you as your protector, comforter, and guide.
